Throughout my years at SUNY Cortland, I have learned to fulfill these expectations as a student. Presenting this lesson to my COR students allowed me to discover the true meaning of becoming a professional and utilizing professionalism in my own life experiences. Now that I am getting closer to launching a professional career myself, I must be prepared in terms of my attitude, the way I conduct myself, and how to effectively communicate. Professionalism fosters a culture surrounding respect and this culture permeates into the workplace, education, and even in our daily lives. This lesson has improved my confidence in terms of readiness to take on the real world.
Given that COVID-19 has changed the way education in the world operates, I have come to learn how to utilize online ways of teaching as well as learning. Due to the way my class is set up, it changed the way I envisioned how to teach my students. I learned that I must become flexible in my teaching styles and accommodate students in terms of their ability to access the internet and use remote learning. Visual presentations worked best for my students as I have noticed that they retain the information better when it is presented in front of them. Not only did visuals benefit students, but it allowed me to execute a lesson to the best of my ability through utilizing creative ways to relay this information to my students and keep them engaged in the lesson. Though I would have liked to do more activities with my students, it became difficult to do so through an online setting. This semester has been a challenge for all of us, but my instructor and I worked diligently to make the transition into college much easier for our first year students.
